Mustang Volleyball Goes 1-2 for the Week
Last week the Mustangs hosted another triangular at Stanton. Teams included Tekamah Herman and Oakland Craig. The Mustangs first played Tekamah Herman and lost in two sets, 22-25 and 16-25. Leading in serving from the line was Alyssa Estes with 8/8, followed by Dasi Sieh with 7/7 and Whitney Heppner with 5/5. Unger led the team with 12 kills, followed by Heppner with five, Shannon Pestel with three, and Kelsey Bernbeck and Miranda Clausen each with two. Set assists was led by Sieh with 18. Serve receives were led by Unger with 10/11 to the target. Leading defensively for the Mustangs was Clausen with seven digs, followed by Sieh with six digs. Heppner had two solo blocks for the game.
The last game of the night for the Mustangs was against the Oakland Craig Knights. The game was a nail bitter from start to finish. Coach Klinetobe stated the girls never gave up and kept focused to capture a win in three sets. The Mustangs lost the first set 24-26. The girls then took the floor for the second set all fired up and won 25-21. During the third set the Mustangs were down by seven points and fought their way back slowly to a close 25-23 win. Heppner scored the winning point by serving one of her six aces for the game. Leading from the service line was Heppner with 16/16 and six aces, followed by Allison Flood with 11/11 and two aces and Melissa Leaver 7/7 and one ace. Kills for the game was led by Unger and Clausen with seven each, Heppner ended the game with six. Set assists were led by both Sieh and Leaver with seven each. Blocking for the Mustangs were Heppner, Pestel, and Hendricksen with one solo block a piece. Unger again had a great game serve receiving with 10/11 to the target. Defensive was led by Clausen with ten digs, followed by Unger with six, and Flood, Bernbeck, and Cheyney with five each.
The Mustangs then traveled to Clarkson last Thursday night to face the Red Devils. The Mustangs played the first set aggressively and won 25-18. The next three sets did not favor the Mustangs as they lost 11-25, 9-25, and 17-25. Leading in serves from the line was Sieh 17/17 with one ace. Unger had a great game from the net with a game high for the year of 15 kills and two solo blocks. Heppner, Pestel, and Clausen, followed with three kills each. Sieh led in set assists with 13. Kennedy Cheyney led the Mustangs in serve receives with 14/19 to the target and also defensively with 11 digs. Unger had eight digs, followed by Heppner and Clausen with six digs each.
