Mustangs lose to Cougars
The Mustangs traveled to Lyons-Decatur last Thursday and ended up 0-3 on the night in sets. The first set went back and forth but the Cougars won it 19-25. The next two sets weren’t as well played as the first, as the mustangs lost 9-25 and 8-25. Leading from the service line was Sam Unger with 5/5. Serve receives was led by Kennedy Cheyney with eleven followed by Unger with ten. There were only eight total kills for the Mustangs that night and six of them were from Unger. Set assists were Dasi Sieh with seven and Whitney Heppner with one. Defensively, the digs were led by Cheyney with nine. Heppner had three nice solo blocks for the game.
JH Volleyball Has a Good Week
The JH volleyball teams had a lot of playing time this week and more wins to add to their record. On Monday, the 7th/8th grade teams traveled to Tilden to play against the Elkhorn Valley Falcons. The first game for the night was the 7th Grade A team. They beat the Falcons in two sets, 25-13 and 25-12. Leading in scoring was Braska Patterson with eleven points, followed by Rachel Brandl with nine. Next to play was the 7th Grade B team. They also won in two sets, 25-11 and 26-24. Leading in scoring was Journee Trimble with ten points, followed by Britanni Sothen with seven. The 8th graders then entered the gym and beat the Falcons in two sets, 25-8 and 25-19. Leading in scoring was Kate Kerbel with twelve points, followed by Dacia Beyke with eight.
The Madison Dragons then came to Stanton on Tuesday night and the Mustangs stampeded them in all three games. First up for the night was the 7th Grade B team. They beat the Dragons in three sets, 25-15, 21-25, and 15-8. Leading in scoring was Britanni Sothen with eleven points, followed by Jasmine Meyer with ten. The 7th Grade A team then took the court and defeated the Dragons, 25-10 and 25-21. Leading in scoring was Rachel Brandl with eight points, followed by Jaden Estes with six. The 8th Grade then ended the stampede for the night in two sets and sent the Dragons home in defeat, 25-18 and 25-18. Leading in scoring was Kate Kerbel and Kelsey Johnson with eleven points each.
On Saturday, a mixture of 7th/8th graders formed a team and played in the Scribner/Snyder tournament. The first game for the day was against the Omaha Christian Academy School. The Mustangs won in two sets, 25-10 and 25-15. Leading in scoring was Kirsten Weis with seven points, followed by Rachel Shafer with five. The Mustangs then played against Scribner-Snyder. All three sets were very close in scoring. The first set the Mustangs lost, 20-25, but they came back and won the second set 25-18. The third set went back and forth in scoring but the Mustangs lost 12-15. This put them out of contention for the Championship game. Leading in scoring was Kate Kerbel with nine points, followed by Rachel Brandl with eight. Kassidy Tighe played a great game at the net with a huge block to score a crucial rally point in the second set. The girls then played the final game for the day against Fremont Archbishop Bergen to determine 3rd and 4th place. The girls had a slow start the first set and feel behind. They then picked up the pace of the game but it was too late and they lost the first set 20-25. The second set was anyone’s set as the Mustangs and Fremont battled back and forth but the Mustangs just couldn’t get to twenty-five first and lost 23-25. This landed the Mustangs fourth place at the tournament. Leading in scoring was Tabitha Kander with four points
