The Mustangs faces off with the Bluejays of Newman Grove on Tuesday, which was the first of three games for the week.  Stanton jumped out to a 13 point lead at halftime and never looked back from there.  The Mustangs went on to win the game 63-43.  In the game the Mustangs were able to play 13 different and nine of them found themselves in the scorebook.  The Mustangs were led by Josh Herscheid’s game high 19 points, followed by Tate Erbst with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Blake Heppner chipped in 9 points.

Next up on Friday for the Mustangs was the Madison Dragons.  Like Tuesday game this was a game in which all 13 players suited up got to see some action.  The Mustangs cranked up the defense and only allowed the Dragons to score 35 points, while the Mustangs posted 72 points.  Coach Brown commented “Madison has a very young team and our guys did a good job defending them, our press led to a lot of easy transition buckets for us”.  Ten Mustangs found themselves in the scorebook.  Josh Herscheid’s 21 points led both teams.  Michael Eberly put in 12 points, Bo Qualls, 8 points, Mark Tomka, 7 points, and Tate Erbst and Blake Heppner put in 6 a piece.

On Saturday night the Mustangs had to travel over to West Point to take on West Point Beemer Cadets in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament.  The Mustangs came out and only gave up 14 points in the first half which allowed the Mustangs to cruise to a 62-38 victory.  “In the game tonight we played great defense,  only giving up 14 points in the first half allowed us to use some different line-ups in the second half and play all ten kids equal minutes in the second half” commented Coach Brown.  This was a good week for the Mustangs getting three victories heading into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.  The Mustangs were paced by Josh Herscheid’s 14 points, followed by Mark Tomka with 13 points, Steven Petersen put in 9 points, and Spencer Nikolite had 8 points.
