Season Ends for Boys

On Monday  the Mustangs took on Lyons-Decatur in the first round of sub-districts.  The Mustangs took an 9 point lead into halftime and managed to keep that 9 point lead  going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth Lyons-Decatur made a strong run at the end of the game to force overtime.  In the overtime period the Mustangs  outscored Lyons-Decatur by 5, going on to win the game 59-54.  “We had some kids step up for us off the bench and make some big plays, which helped us win the game” commented Coach Brown.  Leading the way for the Mustangs was Spencer Nikolite with 13 points, Josh Herscheid with 12 points, Blake Heppner 8 points, Micheal Eberly 7 points, Mark Tomka and Tate Erbst each with 6 points and Steven Petersen with 5 points.

On Tuesday the Mustangs took on Winnebago in the second round of sub-districts.  Winnebago took an early  17-9 lead, only to have Stanton chip away at it.  Winnebago took a 25-20 lead into halftime.  In the third quarter Michael Eberly hit 3 huge 3-pointers to give Stanton a 37-34 lead going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Winnebago hit 14 free throws and some key jump shots to take control of the game and win it 63-49.  “Our kids played really hard, Winnebago is a good shooting team and they made some big shots in the fourth quarter” commented Coach Brown.  “I also want to thank our seniors, Tate Erbst, Josh Herscheid, Bo Qualls, and Mark Tomka, for all their hard work they put in over the last 4 years, they will be sorely missed” commented Coach Brown.  Leading the way for Stanton was Josh Herscheid with 20 points, Michael Eberlywith 14 points,  Blake Heppner with 6 points, Tate Erbst, 5 points, and Mark Tomka  4 points.
