Mustangs Fall to LHNE Football

Mustangs Fall to Lutheran High Northeast

Last Friday night the Stanton Mustang Football team lost to the Lutheran High Northeast Eagles on homecoming night. Lutheran High scored two touchdowns on back to back drives in the 1st quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Stanton would answer when Marcus Spotanski found Beau WIlke on a 66 yard touchdown pass. After the Eagles faked a punt they went in to score to make the game 21-6. After the Mustangs could not convert on 4th down, Lutheran High punched in one more score before half to make it 28-6 Eagles. “They were a big and physical team up front and we had trouble getting them off the field as they converted four 4th and short plays to keep drives going” said head coach Dave Stoddard. “We have to generate stops and sustain drives on offense”

In the 3rd quarter, Lutheran High would add two more touchdowns and would tack on one final score late in the 4th quarter to make the final 49-6.

“We had opportunities to make plays throughout the night, we did some really good things at time and at other times we simply could not convert when we needed too”, said Stoddard  .

The Mustangs were led on the ground by Gauge Erickson 5-25, Beau Wilke 2-8 yds, Cade Goger 1-7, and Marcus Spotanski 1-2 yds. Receiving leaders were Beau Wilke 1-66, Cade Goger 1-26, Sutton Pohlman 2-25 yds, Zak Hansen 1-10 and Gauge Erickson 1-1yds.  Junior quarterback Marcus Spotanski was 5-11 passing for 119 yards and 1 TD.

On the defensive side of the ball the Mustangs were led in tackles by Sutton Pohlman 15, Gage Erickson 12, Beau Wilke 11, Ashton Flood 8, Cade Goger 6, Moorghan Prusa 5, Ben WIlke 4, Tayotn Lierman 4, Ben Hansen 3, Kadyn Fernau 2, Alek Reese 2, Sam Bates 1, Jordan Gartner 1, and Zak Hansen 1.

The Mustangs will be home next Friday as they host the Crofton Warriors for a 5:30 pm kickoff. We hope to have another great crowd on hand, as the continued support is very much appreciated.
