FB Mustangs lose to Trojans
Mustangs Lose to #2 Hartington Cedar Catholic
Last Friday the Stanton Mustang Football team lost to the #2 Hartington Cedar Catholic 21-0. The Mustangs fell behind 14-0, when Cedar Catholic returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown and then broke away on a 66 yard trap play. Stanton moved the ball into Cedar Catholics territory a couple time in the first half, but could not put together a scoring drive. The Mustangs would go into the half down 14-0 .
“Hartington Cedar Catholic was a very impressive team, but we stopped a couple of their scoring drives and did some good things in all 3 phases of the game in the 1st half.” said Stoddard.
In the second half, Hartington would score one more time in the 3rd quarter and they were able to keep the Mustangs out of the endzone as the final score was Cedar Catholic 21-0 over Stanton. “As the game went on the kids did not show sign of quit or letting up. They held one of the top teams in the state under their scoring average” said Stoddard. “We just need to find a way to finish drives on our end and do the important things every play”.
The Mustangs were led on the ground by Gauge Erickson 5-24, Beau Wilke 3-8yds, Cade Goger 5-14 yds, and Sutton Pohlman 2-1yds. Receiving leaders were Beau Wilke 2-73yds and Sutton Pohlman 3-42 yds. Junior quarterback Marcus Spotanski was 1-6 passing for 25,Sutton Pohlman 1-2 15 yds, Cade Goger was 0-2 , and Kadyn Fernau was 0-1.
On the defensive side of the ball the Mustangs were led in tackles by Gauge Erickson 16, Ashton Flood 11, Sutton Pohlman 10, Ben Hansen 10, Beau Wilke 9, Moorghan Prusa 6, Cade Goger 6, Kadyn Fernau 6, Alek Reese 5, Ben Wilke 4, Logan Kage 4, Moorghan Prusa 3, and Christian Flood 1.
This Friday at 7pm the Stanton Mustang Football team will travel to Battle Creek, it will be the final game for seniors Beau Wilke, Ashton Flood, Ben Hansen, and Logan Kage. Please consider making the trip to Battle Creek, as we appreciate your continued supprt
