Football vs Tekamah Herman

Mustangs improve to 2-0

 

Last Friday night the Stanton Mustang Football team won its home opener over the Tekamah-Herman Tigers 28-14. Stanton took the lead in the 1st quarter when Marcus Spotanski ran the ball in from 1 yd out. , the Tigers responded with a score of their own tying the game at 6-6. Stanton took the lead right before the half when Marcus Spotanski connected with Sutton Pohlman on a 42 yard pass. Sophmore Gage Tighe would run in the two point conversion and Stanton led 14-6 going into the half.

To start the second half, Stanton marched the ball down the field and Kadyn ran the ball in from 21 yds. Spotanski would find Nathan Arens on a pass for the 2 pt conversion. Stanton would hold Tekamah-Herman on the next possession again and drove down the field. Pohlman capped off the drive with a 2 yard run. Tekamah-Herman would score a late touchdown with a 1:50 to go, making the score 28-14. Stanton would recover the onside kick and was able to run out the clock improving on the season to 2-0, with a 28 – 14 victory.

"We wanted to sure up our assignment, alignment, technique this week. We missed some opportunities in all three areas of the game, but overall the players put forth great effort and continued to get better as the game went on and made plays", said head coach Dave Stoddard.

The Mustangs were led in rushing by Kadyn Fernau 10-118yds, Cade Goger 9-116 yds, Sutton Pohlman 7-62 yds, , and Marcus Spotanski 7-18 yds, Gage Tighe 3-19 yds, and Damien Erickson 2-5 yds.  Receiving leaders were Pohlman 1-42yds, Moorghan Prusa 1-42yds, Fernau 1-21 yds, , and Nathan Arens 2-14yds. Spotanski led all passers with a 5-9 122 yds (1 TD) performance. The offensive line did a great job again up front: Sam Bates, Christian Flood, Alek Reese, Mason Bruggeman, and Jordan Gartner, with help from TE’s Nathan Arens, Zak Hansen, Trey Elbert and Moorghan Prusa.

The Mustangs will travel to 2-0 North Bend for a 7:00 pm kickoff this Friday. We hope to have another great crowd on hand, as the crowd for the Tekamah-Herman game was very much appreciated.
