Mustangs come up short against Fremont Bergan

Last Friday night the Stanton Mustang Football team came up short against the Fremont Bergan Knights 27-14. Stanton jumped out to a 7-0 lead after Kadyn Fernau stripped the ball on the opening kickoff and raced down to the Bergan 2 yd line. Sutton Pohlman would run the ball in to complete the score. Bergan would answer on its ensuing drive and tie the game 7-7. The Mustangs would drive the ball to the Bergan 10 yard line but could not complete the scoring drive. After trading punts the Knights would take a 14-7 lead into the half “We left a scoring opportunity out there right before the half and you can’t do that against team like Fremont Bergan, we knew going into the second half we needed to finish drives.” said head coach Dave Stoddard.

To start the second half, Stanton and Bergan exchanged fumbles. The Mustangs marched the ball down the field and Pohlman raced into the endzone for his second touchdown of the game. Issiah Borgman added the extra point and the game was tied at 14.  Bergan would take the lead back at the end of the 3rd quarter 21-14. Stanton drove the ball again into the redzone, but timely mistakes set them back once again. Bergan would add one more score in the final minutes, as they prevailed 27-14

"Our kids played extremely hard and were once again in position to score points, we need to make the most of those opportunities moving forward” said Stoddard
