Mustang Boys finish 3rd in Holiday Tournament

The Stanton Mustang Boys finished 3rd place in the Stanton Holiday Tournament over the break. In game one the Mustangs hosted the Oneill Eagles. The Mustangs would fall behind 24-19 at half. “We struggled with their full court press and half court trap throughout the first half and we knew that we needed to slow things down and handle the on ball pressure” , said Stoddard. Unfortunately for Stanton they could not close the gap, as they were outscored 17-14 in the 3rd quarter and 14-13 in the fourth and lost by a score of 55-45. “The kids played hard the entire game, but in the end we made too many mistakes that made it tough to secure a victory.

                  Stanton was led by Marcus Spotanski 19 pts  6 reb, Nathan Arens 4 pts-8 reb,  Sam Bates 6 pts-2 reb, Parker Krusemark 4 pts-4 reb, Brennan Wragge 3 pts 2 reb, Mason Bruggeman 5 pts, and Ben Wilke 4 pts 1 reb

                  On New Year’s Eve, the Mustangs would host 6-2 the  West Holt Huskies in the consolation game. Stanton jumped out to a 9-4 first quarter lead and never looked back as they went into halftime with a 19-10 lead. The Mustangs would out score the Huskies 19-11 in the 3rd and finished the game with a 49-37 win. “We did so many things well in this game, handled pressure, got great looks at the basket , rebounded well and played, as a team, the guys really proved to themselves that they could play at a high level” , said Stoddard.  With the victory Stanton moves to 2-8 on the season.

                  Stanton was led by Marcus Spotanski 19 pts  10 reb, Nathan Arens 8 pts-5 reb,  Sam Bates 4 pts-5 reb, TJ Larson 11 pts 6 reb,  Parker Krusemark 2 pts-4 reb, Mason Bruggeman 2 pts, and Ben Wilke 2 pts 1 reb
