Mustangs vs North Bend Tigers

Mustangs can’t overcome big plays

Last Friday night the Stanton Mustang Football hosted the Class C2 ranked North Bend Tigers. After the two teams stopped each other on their initial possession, the Tigers were able to score on the short field after Stanton fumbled on their own 10. The Mustangs started another promising drive, but the Mustangs would eventually punt. North Bend would once again score making it 13-0. Stanton would march down the field on their next possession and senior Issiah Borgmann would score on a 5 yard run. Unfortunately North Bend would drive down the field again, making the score 21-6. Stanton wasn’t done, as they used a ground attacked that was capped off once again with a Borgmann run. Making the score 21-13 with just a couple minutes to go in the half.  The Mustangs were unable to keep the Tigers out of the end zone as they scored on a 30 yard pass with 20 seconds to go ,making the score 27-12 going into the half. “They have a very talented offensive team and in their spread offense put us in situations where we had to make plays in space. We needed to do a better job in the second half of limiting big plays and tackling in space”, said Stoddard.

To start the second half, the Mustangs offense marched right down the field to the North Bend 3 yd line, but unfortunately the drive ended on a turnover. The Tigers took the momentum and scored on a 73 yard run. The Tigers and Mustangs would exchange scoring blows throughout  the second half. Sutton Pohlman scored on a 5 yard run and sophomore Damien Ericksen scored on a 4 yard run. North Bend would outlast the Mustags 48-28. “We unfortunately gave up to many big plays to a talented team. We had several opportunities throughout to score and make prevent big plays, but unfortunately we did not execute to our capabilities. We have a great group of that did not quit and I know are ready to get back to work this week” said Stoddard. Stanton will host 3-0 Archbishop Bergan Knights this Friday at 7pm. The program would like to thank all the community members who attended each game so far this season and hopes to see another big turnout in Stanton this Friday.
