Mustangs Football vs Ponca

Mustangs defeat Ponca

 

Last Friday night the Stanton Mustang Football team picked up their second win of the season when they defeated the Ponca Indians by a score of 26-14. Stanton struck first on their first drive when Gage Tighe ran the ball in from 6yds out. The Mustang defense would hold again and Tighe would score on a 2 yd run. With a 12-0 lead, Ponca would score right before the half on a 6yd run. Going into the break, Stanton lead 12-8 “We were pleased with our effort and assignment in the first half, we challenged the kids to be more physical at the point of attack and to finish blocks on offense.” said head coach Dave Stoddard.

To start the second half, Stanton would march down the field and score on a Ben Wilke 1 yd run. Parker Krusemark connected with Trey Elbert on the 2 pt conversion making the score 20-8. Ponca would answer late in the 3rd quarter making it 20-14. The Mustangs would take long to answer as GageTighe scored his 3rd TD of the game on a 5yd run. Neither team would score in the 4th qtr and the Mustangs would prevail 26-14.

"We are very proud of the team tonight, we had so many step up this week and throughout the game and the competed all night long. It was a complete team victory, and we  saw how successful we can be if we put 4 quarters together.

The Mustangs were led in rushing by Gage Tighe 23-157 yds, Jason Claussen 16-122 yds, Ben Wilke 8-27yds, and Parker Krusemark 4-13yds.

            On defense the Mustangs were led by Mason Bruggeman 16,Gage Tighe 14, Parker Krusemark 7, Jason Claussen 7, Devyn Farrier 7, Ben Wilke 6, Damien Erickson 5, Christian Flood 5, Jordan Claussen 4, Thomas Cunningham 3, Trey Elbert 3, and Brennan Wragge 2

The Mustangs will travel to Norfolk Catholic for a 7:00 pm kickoff this Friday. We hope to have another great crowd on hand, thank you for all the continued support.
