Mustangs FB Season Comes to an End

Stanton Football loses final two games of the Season

The Stanton Mustang Football team traveled to Norfolk last week to play the Norfolk Catholic Knights. The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 42-0 victory.

In the first half the Knights jumped out to a 21-0 lead. “We had 3 promising drives that ended, with penalties or missed assignments, we wanted to clean up those areas going into the second half”, said Stoddard . In the second half the Mustangs were not able secure a scoring drive and Norfolk Catholic would score 3 more touchdowns as they closed out a 42-0 victory. “The kids played hard throughout the game, we just could not sustain a scoring drive and had those very same opportunities on defense to keep them out of the endzone”, said Stoddard

In the final game of the season, the Mustangs hosted the #6 ranked in C2 Hartington Cedar Catholic Trojans. Hartington jumped on the Mustangs early scoring 14 points in the 1st quarter and 21 points in the 2nd quarter. The second half would see the Cedar Catholic score 14 in the 3rd quarter and 7 in the 4th quarter. Stanton’s lone touchdown would come on a Gage Tighe 4yd TD run, with a PAT by Brayan Acuna. As the final ticks went off the clock Cedar Catholic would secure a 56-7 victory.

With the conclusion of the season, the Stanton Mustang Football program had 3 seniors that will be leaving the team. “Ben Wilke, Christian Flood, and Jackson Benson did a tremendous job throughout their 4 years playing for the Mustangs. They were fully committed since their freshman year, as they attended offseason conditioning, summer weight room, team activities, season commitments, and did above and beyond what was required of them in all areas. They did a great job as leaders this year and can’t thank them enough for all they have done for the football program, school, and community”, said Stoddard.

Throughout the season the Mustangs battled injuries and often put a very young team on the football field. Although the overall all record is not where we want to be as a program moving forward, but we feel we have some many positive things going on within the program, as we continue to develop our students athletes as young men and football players. We have so many people to thank! The families for their continued support at games, meals, and letting your kids be a part of our football family. We’d also like to thank the community of Stanton and Stanton Community Schools for all of their continued support and caring, Stanton is special place.
